Hydroxyl groups and surface potential of synthetic alumina

Total interfacial potential of aqueous suspensions of synthetic alumina was calculated using the results of conductometric titration of acidic and basic surface active sites. Time of spin probe rotational correlation in alumina dispersions was determined by ESR spectroscopy. It was established that viscosity of disperse medium near slipping boundary is 4-4.5 time higher than the one for solution bulk. ζ-potential calculated considering the viscosity changes and Ψδ-potential calculated under the condition that the thickness of hydrodynamically unmovable layer is equal to 1.5 nm are close to the value of total interfacial potential..
